Inverter technology adjusts output to demand.
The noisy compressor sits outside.
Year-round comfort from one system.
Most split systems are fitted in a day.
What is a split air conditioning system?
A split system separates the air conditioner into two parts: an indoor unit that delivers cool or warm air to the room, and an outdoor unit containing the compressor and condenser. The two are connected by small refrigerant pipes and a cable through a single neat hole in the wall.
Because the compressor is outside, split systems are much quieter and far more efficient than portable or window units – read our comparison of portable vs fixed air conditioning.
Types of split systems we install
- Wall-mounted splits – ideal for bedrooms, living rooms and offices.
- Cassette splits – recessed into the ceiling for open-plan and commercial spaces.
- Floor-standing and low-level units – perfect for conservatories and rooms with limited wall space.
- Concealed ducted splits – hidden in a ceiling void with only grilles visible.
Need several rooms? A multi-split system connects multiple indoor units to one outdoor unit.

Installing split AC without disruption
We plan pipe routes carefully to keep visible trunking to a minimum, use dust sheets and extraction while drilling, and leave your home or office clean. Preparation is simple: clear access to the wall where the indoor unit will go and the area outside for the condenser.
Costs, sizing and aftercare
The cost of a split system depends mainly on its cooling capacity, the brand and features you choose, and the length and complexity of the pipe run. We calculate the correct size during your free survey – see our guide on choosing the right size air conditioner.
Every installation comes with a warranty and a detailed service report. Annual servicing keeps your split system efficient and your warranty valid.
Where should the indoor and outdoor units go?
Indoor unit placement
High on a wall with clear airflow across the room, away from direct sun and heat sources, and ideally on or near an outside wall to keep pipe runs short and neat.
Outdoor unit placement and noise
On a wall bracket or ground stand with space for airflow and servicing, positioned considerately for neighbours. We provide noise data where needed.
Split system or multi-split: which do you need?
For one or two rooms, single split systems are simple, resilient and cost-effective. Once you want three or more rooms, or external space is limited, a multi-split usually makes more sense.
